Veneers

What is a veneer?

A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain made to fit over the front surface of a tooth. It is like a false-fingernail fitting over a nail.

What material is it made from?

Veneers can either be made from porcelains or from composite. Porcelain is the more common material used.

When would I need a veneer?

Veneers are very popular for the following:

To improve the colour, shape, position of your teeth.

To Re-build a chip in a tooth.

To close gaps in between your front teeth.

To bring an in-standing tooth inline with the remaining teeth.

To mask deep staining such as brown spots etc.

How is a veneer made?

Sometimes no preparation is necessary nor the need for local anaesthetic. When the teeth need to be prepared, a very thin layer on the outside surface is removed. Impressions (moulds) are taken and sent to the laboratory. At the next appointment, the veneer is fitted.

How long will veneers last?

Veneers can last for many years. Porcelain is a glass material and can therefore crack or chip if care isn’t taken.
